Behind the Red Equal Sign

"Our journey is not complete until our gay brothers and sisters are treated like anyone else under the law... For if we are truly created equal, then surely the love we commit to one another must be equal as well."

Amen.  Discriminatory laws should not have a place in our country, regardless of beliefs and religion. Let's hope the Supreme Court agrees...Thankfully, according to ABC News, momentum for marriage equality is greater than ever.  58% of registered voters in the US support marriage equality... 64% of these people say the constitution should be used to establish the right for same-sex couples, and not individual states.
Currently, over 1,000 federal rights, benefits and protections are denied to lawfully married same-sex couples... even though these benefits are based on marital status. Included here are access to Social Security and tax benefits, family and medical leave and federal health coverage. Being excluded from these important benefits affects same-sex couples, but also thousands of children across the country being raised by these couples.

Human Rights Campaign will be providing live updates and news throughout the day. Visit www.hrc.org/standformarriage and watch for #UnitedforMarriage for more information and to show support.
The Supreme Court holds the ability to change history right in it's hands. Our country is ready, and needs, equality across the board. It's time religion and ignorance be put aside to let every person take part in the benefits of a loving, commited relationship.
